Tropical Getaway

We decided to take a last minute trip to one of our very favorite places, Hilton Head Island, SC. However, we took a slight detour the 1st night and stayed in Jekyell Island, GA to finally see the famous golden isle.
The island, like Hilton Head, has bike trails everywhere.
It also has the most abundant amount of live oaks and Spanish moss I've ever seen.
The island is a state park and is best known for Driftwood Beach.
They say it's a photographers paradise.
The evening we went it was pretty dark and dreary. The sky was a strange color from some African sandstorm.
The kids loved this place. They climbed and explored. Searched for crabs.
My very favorite artsy picture.
2nd favorite.
What a neat place!
He hates selfies. One of the reasons we went away was because Josh had a bunch of extra days off work lately. He loves days off.
The next day we made it to the beach on Hilton Head Island. We let the kids play, ate at the Mellow Mushroom, played mini putt, and went to Sweet Frogs for dessert.
We biked everywhere, including Pinckney Wildlife Refuge, our favorite area of Hilton Head.
These are the nesting grounds for so many birds. See all the white in the background? We usually see lots of alligators there too.
At the very end of the preserve is the most amazing natural beach.
The kids saw several sting ray and smaller sharks while walking along the water!
Our only recognizable picture of the shark.
It was crazy how many crabs were there. If you weren't careful you'd almost step on them.
View of the island.
Hey guys, wait for me!!
A turtle along the path on our way back.
We played our 1st ever family tennis one evening. It was a blast! The kids enjoyed swimming in the pool in the evenings when it was dark and the water was lit up blue.
Another day we kayaked. I got everyone sun hats and they all looked the part.
Exploring a cove. We actually preferred kayaking the mangroves where there was a path to follow with the current.
The coolest thing we saw was a pink spoon bill.
It was so great to get away from home and enjoy each other in a place we love!
