Washington DC Trip

On Thursday afternoon we traveled 6 hours to our nation's capital. I had only been once in 6th grade.
On Friday we started Day 1 at the Library of Congress. It ended up being one of our favorite places due to the architecture and interesting display of the most read books.
From the library we walked through an underground tunnel to the US Capital building.
We didn't take a tour but we did see some neat statues.
And explored the exhibit hall.
Just a short walk away was the US Botanical Gardens.
On display were these replicas of Washington DC Buildings made of all natural materials.
Loved these...a leaf design on a leaf!
We made a short stop at the Air & Space Museum to eat lunch and skim the exhibits.
Next door was the Hirshhorn Museum of Art. Addy was afraid of the nudes.
This museum was one of the favorite stops because of the uniqueness of the exhibits. This is a real person playing a guitar.
Contemplation...Josh is explaining what it means.
After a quick walk along the National Mall we headed back to the hotel for our fun evening ritual of...
free refreshments including alcohol, cable TV and
SWIMMING! Heavenly, that I don't have to get in and can read a book instead.
On Day 2, after eating a delicious FREE hotel breakfast...
we went to the White House Visitors Center and checked out the view of the backyard.
Then we got an Uber ride over to the Natural History Museum. Jackson actually asked me to take his picture with this giant bat. Our favorite part was the precious gem section including the guarded Hope Diamond.
After lunch from some food trucks we went to the American Museum of Art. This piece includes plates from every state and the preamble to the Constitution.
The enclosed courtyard was beautiful.
As were many other parts of the museum. We enjoyed the unique exhibits but were quickly bored of portraits and paintings.
This huge tree was next to our hotel on the walk back.
On Day 3 we started at the American History Museum. Since it was New Years Day, we had the place all to ourselves. Tons of interesting stuff here. The kids liked the various money and Abe Lincoln's hat! I liked seeing the dresses of the 1st ladies.
We ate lunch and toured the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. Tough to imagine but it seemed more real to me because I had just finished reading Night the previous day.
Next we walked the mall and saw the National WWII Memorial. Mr Picture.
When we walked along the Reflection Pool, the kids loved being outside.
The popular Lincoln Monument.
And the amazing view from the steps. I've love to go back when the trees are in bloom.
We only missed seeing the National Cathedral & Gallery of Art planned for our last morning due to Jackson getting sick. Thanks so much Neville's for these awesome memories.
